MWg and Splashpower join forces to offer wirelessly powered Smartphones

2008/02/01
” Mobile & Wireless Group (MWg - formerly known as O2 Asia) Splashpower Ltd., a Cambridge, U.K.-based developer of wireless power technology, yesterday announced that they have signed an agreement that will enable MWg devices to be powered wirelessly.Under terms of the agreement, MWg devices (most likely MWg’s upcoming Xda Windows Mobile smartphones) will be equipped by mid year with Splashpower’s technology to enable inductive charging, where electrical batteries of a handset are charged wirelessly using electromagnetic induction.
Mark Billington, MWg’s chief executive officer (CEO) notes: “This is a superb opportunity for MWg to provide the convenience of wireless power to our customers. We are a strong advocate of innovative technology that enhances the consumer experience. The addition of this technology will provide end users greater flexibility in charging their handsets.”
“MWg is a proven innovator who will effectively showcase our technology,” adds Bill Campbell, CEO of Splashpower. “The charging convenience and universality we offer is a natural addition to the exciting new devices in the 2008 MWg roadmap.”
Sounds interesting but hopefully MWg’s upcoming devices will also feature a USB port since I don’t want to carry a cradle if I’m traveling. Also I’m not sure how to sync. Wirelessly via Bluetooth (which is fine for me but still not as automatic as it should be)?” via theunwired.net
