HanDBase 4 is the result of several years of development and while it certainly couldn't contain every requested feature, it contains a great number of the most requested features.
HanDBase is nearly 10 years old, and despite our license policy of 1 year of included free upgrades, most users have received free upgrades all throughout these years. While we'd love to continue this practice, we have the need to recoup some of the large development costs we incurred these past few years bringing this new product to you. After careful consideration, we decided to charge just USD$14.99 for the upgrade. Additionally, as you can see from the features list, so many features were added to the Forms capability, we felt it was a great time to offer you a special discount to upgrade to the Professional version if you are using the Standard or Plus versions. Whereas the cost to upgrade from these packages is $19.99, we've made it so that if you upgrade to Professional now, you'll get the 4.0 upgrade and the Professional upgrade both- a 15.00 savings. Please note, this is a limited time offer.
Of course, we honored our license agreement which says that you get a year of free upgrades, so anyone who purchased in the last 365 days should already find in their account a version of HanDBase4 to match what they purchased previously. Also, anyone active in a service agreement gets this upgrade for free as well.
Edmund Burke once said "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it." We learned quite a few things from the 3.0 release we had a few years ago, some of those were hard lessons about the logistics of such a large upgrade to such a large group of people at once. One of those lessons was that HanDBase is used in many workplaces, and as such, there are often people who are not interested in updating right away- they realize that despite the beta testing there may be bugs that slip past the initial release. For this reason, we are keeping HanDBase 3 actively available on our site- in fact, we just released a version 3.75 update coinciding with the 4.0 release. If you decide not to upgrade, you'll still be able to download the current 3.x release for, at minimum, one year. But we hope you'll upgrade to version 4- if you do, you'll have access to download both version 3.75 and 4.0 in your account so you can switch back and forth if necessary. HanDBase v3.75 can read the databases created and used by HanDBase 4.0; though it does not support all the new features in these databases, it was designed to skip those features gracefully.
