i-mate JAQ4 Review
The i-mate JAQ4 and the Samsung i600 are two devices that have a similar design. The i-mate JAQ4 is one of the new devices released by i-mate that will be running the new version of Windows Mobile 6.0. The Samsung i600 Ultra Messaging is manufactured by Samsung and is running Windows Mobile 5.0 for smartphones. The i-mate JAQ4 is an improved version of the previously released i-mate JAQ3. The Samsung i600 can be considered the new version of the Samsung SGH-i320.

The i-mate JAQ4 is released by a company, i-mate, who promotes and sells only pocket pcs and smart phones powered by Windows Mobile. The Samsung i600 on the other hand is manufactured by Samsung, a company which sells a plethora of electronic devices and mobile phones. In its mobile phone range Samsung has a small number of Windows Mobile powered devices.  The i-mate JAQ4 is one of the new models presented by i-mate that really have something different to offer to Pocket PC and Smartphone users. It is the first i-mate device to have phone functionality with a built in GPS receiver. It is a device released just before the announcement of the i-mate Ultimate Series, a series of pocket pc devices with great features and functionality.  The Samsung SGH-i600 is a smart-phone device released after the Samsung Blackjack (AKA SGH-i607) was made available in the USA Market. The Samsung i600 overcomes two of the major disadvantages of the Samsung Blackjack (built-in WiFi and second video camera on the front used for Video Calling) and was also made available in the European Market. The i-mate JAQ 4 is sold for 400 GBP and the Samsung SGH-i600 for 390 GBP.

The i-mate JAQ4 looks very similar to the Samsung SGH-i600.  Both devices have a QWERTY keyboard just below the screen and both devices have a compact and stylish design. The finish on the outside is black and both devices have a set of buttons with a five-way control below the screen. There is also a jog wheel on the left of both devices.

Besides a few similarities, mainly in design, the i-mate JAQ4 and the Samsung SGH-i600 have a number of important differences:

First of all the i-mate JAQ4 is a Pocket PC (touch screen) while the Samsung i600 is a Smartphone. This essentially means that you cannot edit office documents on the Samsung i600 (still running Windows Mobile 5.0) but you can only view them.

The i-mate JAQ4 is running the new version of Windows Mobile, Windows Mobile 6.0 while the Samsung i600 is running Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphones.

The i-mate JAQ4 is bigger in Length, Width and Depth than the Samsung i600 and it weight 80g more.

The imate JAQ4 is running a Texas Instrument OMAP 850 processor while the Samsung i600 is running a TI OMAP 1710.

The size of the display of the i-mate JAQ4 is 2.8 inch and for the Samsung i600 us 2.3 inch.

The expansion slot of the i-mate JAQ4 is a miniSD and for the Samsung i600 a microSD.

The i-mate JAQ4 Bluetooth version is 1.2 while the bluetooth version on the Samsung is 2.0

The i-mate JAQ4 camera is 2.0 mega pixels and the camera of the Samsung i600 is 1.3 mega pixels.

The Samsung i600 has a secondary camera on the front used for video calling but the i-mate JAQ4 does not.

The i-mate JAQ4 does not support 3G but the Samsung i600 does (HSDPA, 1.8 Mbps)

The i-mate JAQ4 has infrared port but the Samsung i600 does not.

The i-mate JAQ4 has a built in GPS receiver but the Samsung i600 does not have a built in GPS.

The i-mate JAQ4 is Quad Band GSM but the Samsung i600 is tri-band GSM.
