Mitsubishi Electric to close down mobile phones business

2008/03/07

Mitsubishi Electric has said that it has become difficult to expect growth in demands for the already matured domestic mobile phone market, with the increasingly diverse preferences of consumers leading to severe business conditions.

The company will stop launches of newly developed models after the current models are supplied to and sold by NTT DoCoMo. However, it will continue after-sales service and the recall of D06 lithium batteries.

Mitsubishi Electric's 600 employees will be repositioned in its strategic businesses, the company said.
