iPhone SDK + Enterprise

2008/03/24

It was a proud day for Apple when Steve Jobs - with the help of Phil Schiller & Scott Forstall - announced the iPhone Software Roadmap and the iPhone Firmware 2.0. The roadmap includes both Enterprise Features for the business user and the iPhone Software Development Kit for all iPhone developers out there. Follow the link to read more information on the Special Event…

Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) - Free, About 2GB
Many people have sent me questions about the SDK that I was talking about earlier on the site. Apple has split-it-up into 3 sections so I will do the same:
Develop: You use the built-in tools to develop and code your very own application for the iPhone. Please note that the SDK requires Mac OS X Leopard.
Test: Use the iPhone Simulator - if you do not own a iPhone or iPod Touch - to see how your app works in real time.
Distribute: For a registration fee of $99 per Year, you can join the Apple Developer’s Program and have your new app “reach every iPhone and iPod Touch customer” through the App Store & iTunes. You can pick the price, and Apple will take 30% of the revenues - unless it is free. There are no hosting, credit card or marketing fees!

Enterprise Features:
Phil Schiller was asked to get on stage and announce all of the new Enterprise Features that would be found on the iPhone Firmware 1.2.0 He started out by describing all of the features that businesses wanted in the iPhone, and then announced that the iPhone would include all of those features:
Push Email, Contacts & Calendar
Global Address List
Certificates & Identities
WPA2/802.1x
Enforced Security Policies
Even More VPN Protocols
Device Configuration & Remote Wipe
