Apple hails "incredible reaction" to iPhone SDK

2008/03/27

Apple has announced that over 100,000 iPhone developers have downloaded the Software Development Kit since it was announced last week.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said that the reaction of developers to the SDK "has been incredible", adding that over one million people watched the launch video at Apple's web site.

Companies including AOL, Electronic Arts, Epocrates, Salesforce.com and Sega have already demonstrated prototype applications using the SDK, while the vice president of Namco, Scott Rubin, said that they couldn't wait to "show off great new versions of arcade classics like PAC-MAN and Galaga that use the revolutionary features of the iPhone and iPod touch".

Casual game company PopCap, makers of hits such as Bejeweled and Peggle, said that the iPhone was now an "important mobile game platform" thanks to the introduction of the SDK.

Six Apart is also working on a native TypePad blogging application for the iPhone.
