CTIA: T-Mobile Embraces Qualcomm's Gobi Mobile Internet

2008/04/06

Qualcomm Inc. announced that T-Mobile International will soon certify laptops that feature the company's Gobi technology for embedded multimodal connectivity, making it one of the first carriers to do so.

Gobi gives notebooks a broad palette of connectivity capabilities, including Wi-Fi, CDMA EV-DO and HSPA. It also supports GPS functionality. Thus, users can connect to 3G globally.

"T-Mobile International is pleased to be among the first carriers to certify the Gobi module," said Vish Sowani, vice president of sales and strategic alliances at T-Mobile International. "Gobi's flexibility addresses many of the concerns that enterprises have had about adopting built in 3G WWAN and will enable the wireless data market for notebooks to grow even faster going forward."

Gobi devices are expected to become commercial in the second half of the year.
