iPhones all gone?

Apple stops selling iPhone, 3G enthusiasts go into overload

We reported last week on the sudden lack of availability of 8GB and 16GB iPhones on the O2 and Carphone Warehouse websites, had a chat with the completely-in-the-dark Apple press office and were left expecting new stock of the 16GB model, if not the 8GB, to be restocked imminently.

But over the weekend the iPhone has mysteriously disappeared from sale on Apple's own website both in Blighty and across the pond, with both the 8GB and 16GB models "currently unavailable". This, as you can no doubt imagine, has been akin to pouring four-star on the glowing embers of the 3G rumour mill and sitting back to watch the fireworks.

Particularly froth-mouthed enthusiasts are now claiming it's a near certainty that Apple will unveil the much-anticipated 3G iPhone at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June. We'll be wiping away the lickspittle every day until then.
